The temple-monument "Alexander Nevsky" is a kind of emblem of the capital. It is located in the center of Sofia, and the square on which it is located bears its name. A cathedral was built in honor of Emperor Alexander II, whose army liberated Bulgaria in 1878. The temple for the name of St. Alexander Nevsky, who is a saint, patronized Alexander II and symbolized Russian martial glory.
Dedicated to God's wisdom, the basilica "St. Sophia" was built during the time of the Roman emperor Constantine Villiki, and since the 14th century, the city itself has been called by the name of the temple - Sofia. The building of the functioning church dates back to the beginning of the 6th century. The image of the basilica is a symbol included in the coat of arms of the capital, created by Haralampi Tachev.
Ancient cultural and communication complex "Serdika" consists of two zones with different purposes. The "Largo" area is intended for holding various cultural and social events. In the Archaeological remains area, the street network, cultic and residential buildings, water supply and sewerage, courtyards and other elements of the Roman city of Serdica can be seen.
The Regional History Museum is housed in the building of the former Central Mineral Bath in Sofia. The building is an architectural masterpiece in the Art Nouveau style, but with many Bulgarian and Byzantine ornaments and references. The interior is also remarkable, with the more than a century old mosaics particularly impressive.
